OBSOLETE POLICY CHIP MANUAL |
Effective Date: November 1, 2009 - March 31, 2011
Previous Policy Reference
The enrollment period includes all months an enrollee is eligible.
The enrollment period begins with the date a completed and signed application is received if the applicant is determined eligible for CHIP enrollment. If 4 day grace period coverage is approved, the enrollment period begins with the beginning date of the grace period coverage. Covered services the child received on or after the date of application are payable by CHIP for a child who was eligible upon application.
The last month of enrollment is the renewal month. This is the last month the enrollee can receive CHIP, unless eligibility for enrollment is renewed. See Section 704 for information about eligibility renewal.
If changes are reported between renewal periods, workers must act on the information reported and determine how it affects eligibility. (See Section 804 for more information on Changes)
If the change makes the enrollee ineligible for CHIP, the eligibility period would end.
If the change is a decrease in income and the enrollee does not request Medicaid coverage, continue CHIP through the end of their certification period. See Section 201-1 for more information about reported changes and screening for Medicaid eligibility.
If any other change is reported which makes the enrollee eligible for Medicaid, remove them from CHIP and open them for Medicaid.
The enrollment period ends if a CHIP family does not pay their quarterly premium. CHIP may be reinstated if the family pays the quarterly premium by the last day of the month immediately following the closure.
