A. Child Age 0-1 Born to a Mother on CHIP B or C
When a child’s mother was eligible for and received CHIP benefits the month of the child’s birth:
- Review the child for Medicaid eligibility without requiring an application.
- If unable to confirm Medicaid eligibility or the child is not eligible for Medicaid approve CHIP starting with the month of birth.
- The child should be on the same CHIP program as their mother.
- The child does not have to continue to live with the birth mother. If the child changes households, the new household must re-apply on behalf of the child to continue the coverage for the remainder of the year. In the case of an adoption, the birth mother’s CHIP eligibility in the birth month should be verified without divulging her personal information.
